Access Overview

This access overview does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors. 


Access Overview for Blue Slates
Blue Slates is a south facing ground floor apartment on the east side of the main property, Hunter’s Moon, which is occupied by the owners, Viv and Steve Jenkins and their two miniature schnauzers Bertie and Otto.  

 

Hunter’s Moon underwent major renovation in 2018 and 2019.  


Blue Slates overlooks the large front garden and surrounding hills, with the gentle sounds of the nearby stream and surrounding nature to sooth the soul.

 
The property is located in the village of Shaugh Prior inside Dartmoor National Park accessed from either the A38 Exeter to Plymouth dual carriageway or from Okehampton across the moors. There is a bus service to and from Plymouth (8 miles) and a good selection of local taxi companies. Exeter is our nearest airport with Bristol the next most convenient. 


Key Collection and Car Parking 
Check in is 2pm and checkout is 11am. Hunter’s Moon/Blue Slates is reached from the village down a narrow lane and across a cattlegrid and shared gravel driveway. Parking for one vehicle is available under our car port. On arrival, if we are in and have heard you, we will come up to meet you otherwise please call the numbers provided and we will come out to you. If we are out, key access will be via the key safe and we will give you details. Parking is for one car comfortably, but two would be possible. The access route to the apartment is via a composite decked ramp which is accessed straight from the gravelled carport. An outside light on the patio is activated by motion and there will be a wind-up torch in the boot box by the patio doors. A coat stand is kept in the bedroom for damp coats to be hung on the laminated area in the living room but we would also be happy to dry any wet outer clothing in our boiler room.


Living/Dining room
The double patio doors open straight into the level access apartment There is a 10cm threshold across the patio doors leading into a light sunny living/dining room.  Slippers and boots are stored on the laminated area. The living room has a short pile carpet, two central heating radiators, Dimplex log/flame effect fire, dining table and four chairs,  two central heating radiators with heating controls, two sofas, rocking chair, coffee table, occasional table, Smart TV, DVD, Sky and Netflix package, WiFi, smart speaker, book case, storage cupboard with shopping bags, iron etc. sideboard with placemats, coasters, pens, paper, spare batteries, games, jigsaws. Central light supplemented with two table lamps. 


Bedroom  
Accessed from the living room. Large, bright and airy room with ottoman king size bed with access all round. Bed height to top of beds with bedding on 58cm. Pillows and duvets either feather or non-allergenic can be supplied as requested. Bedside drawers. Chest of drawers. Freestanding full-length mirror.
Two occasional chairs and footstools with coffee table. Desk/dressing table with chair and mirror.

 

Large wardrobe with hanging space and shoe rack. The outdoor furniture cushions are stored in one end of the wardrobe. Blanket box with throw. Central light with 2 bedside lights. Large window. Short pile carpeting with rugs which can be removed. Radiator with heating control. Electric underblanket available on request. Hairdryer.


Kitchen 
Accessed from the living room through to fully fitted kitchen, equipped with Neff double oven and induction hob, both with drop down doors. Oven controls 162cm from floor.
Worktop 91cm above the floor. Panasonic microwave at 28cm into worksurface. One and a half bowl sink. Integrated AEG fridge/freezer. Neff half size dishwasher. Numerous wall cupboards and undercounter cupboards housing all kitchen/dining equipment and pull out full height larder. Worksurface 60cm depth. Cordless kettle. Toaster. Food mixer. Built in ceiling lights. Karndean laminate tiled flooring. Radiator with heating control.


Shower Room  
Accessed from the kitchen.  Fully tiled walls. Walk in glass screened shower cubicle.  Mira overhead rain shower and hand-held shower with thermostat setting at shower entrance. Grab rail. Non slip mat supplied. WC height to 47cm foldaway grab rail for WC. Vanity unit with dropdown cupboards for storage. Smart light sensor mirror. Washbasin height 82cm. Heated towel rail and convector heater above towel rail with pull cord. Non slip floor.

 

We have the following items for use if required:  Shower chair with brakes, wheelie walker with seat and bag storage, fold up lightweight wheelchair and perching stool.
 

The apartment does not have a washing machine or dryer but we would be happy to provide a service wash and dry if required.
 

Patio 
Immediately outside the apartment is a composite decked patio area with glass balustrade screening. There is outdoor rattan effect seating with cushions and a coffee table, parasol and parasol stand.  

 

Guests are welcome to stroll around the gently sloping front garden the main part of which has level access from the driveway. The garden is not securely fenced.
 

The mobile phone signal is patchy, depending on the service provider. There is landline back-up in the main house.
